I've looked at dozens of books on mindfulness meditation and regard this as one of the best, for it not only gives detailed ideas for developing a mindfulness practice (Part 1), but in Part 2, much the longer section, it discusses in practical terms how to utilize mindfulness for a variety of problems in life that we have all faced, e.g., fear and anxiety, pain, depression, parenting, romance, aging, and others. It's authoritative, but written in conversational, reader-friendly language. Good for both beginning and experienced meditators.
I purchased this book on the recommendation of my primary care physician who was seeking to address some minor "brain farts" not untypical for an elderly man who is in good health with no issues to the extent he always refers to me as medically boring. My immediate medical complaint was a herniated disc causing pain in my left leg. If that type pain fails to distract and cause a lack of mindfulness other more serious cognitive issues probably exist. So I had a decision to make: Do I change doctors or purchase the book? I purchased the book and was soon bored stiff. How this author peddles such snake oil is beyond me. He's selling buddhism, evolution, atheism, and other mindless thoughts debunked by the Holy Scriptures, God our Creator, and Truth. So, I tossed the book and began physical therapy for two weeks. It worked great. I did not become a Buddhist, forsake God, or swallow mindless evolution. Take my advice. Don't drink the cool aid.
